Don’t be fooled, Mets fans

The Mets just signed Granderson for 15 million per year and Chris Young for 7.5 million.  Those are their two big signings.  They’re spending money, you are thinking, right?  Well, err, sort of.  Last year, in 2013, the highest paid Met was Johan Santana at 24.6 million.  Yup.  Never threw a pitch.  So, if Santana comes off at 24.6 and Granderson and Young combined don’t make but 22.5, the Wilponzis have managed to quietly put a few more dollars into their pockets.  The Mets were 25th in payroll last year–out of 30!  Right after Seattle and just before San Diego.  In a major market no less.

Remember, the Dodgers’ owner had to be forced out because of a divorce.  But the Mets owners were given bridge loans in order that they NOT have to sell.  I guess so they could do this in a major market.  Wake up Mets fans.

  1. I heard that the Fool from Milwaukee, the so-called baseball commissioner likes that the Wilponzis will ‘help to hold down the wages payed to MLB players’ plus they’re friends – so there!
