Dr. Zauis, talk to The Swami

(I’m working on a nice tan there, eh?)

I’m reaching out to you, Zaius. The Swami (shown center) simply refuses to fly out to LA on March 29th to see the exhibition between the Red Sox and the Dodgers at the Coliseum. What gives? He’s giving me all the excuses: I’m 73, I want to be able to watch in my living room where I can get a martini or go to the bathroom unimpeded…blah, blah, blah. Perhaps you can reach him. I’m about given up. And the game is a Saturday and the Dodgers open at Chavez Ravine on Monday vs the Giants and the Pods are even home vs the Astros that same Monday. It’s a no brainer; you shoot out there on Fri night and you’re back on Tue or Wed. Sunday, maybe you drive up to San Simeon and take a tour. Kayak dot com has flights as low as $350. Is it ME?

  1. Does the offer extend to me and Baby Pinetar as well? Just wondering.

  2. McG,

No, it’s definetly not you. In fact if you notice from the picture that you posted, he is standing closer to you than his own flesh and blood, so it couldn’t possibly be that.

At 73, he is just DAD. He has actually been more mobile since hitting 60 than ever in his life - but flying across the country is a bit much to ask even if the Dodger franchise has somehow encode itself and genetically fuse with his DNA.

I would just lay down your arms. He is not going to budge on this one. Your only viable option would be to have him kidnapped and transported against his will. Something to think about …

  3. Well, that was my whole point–he and Mrs. Swami have been DRIVING all up and down the Eastern seaboard and to me, driving is far more taxing than a plane ride, rental car and hotel. I feel, that he is hung up on the money aspect and the frivolity of it. He’ll go somewhere, but not for a nothing reason such as that. And he’ll see the game as a 1000 dollar game and not see it as an excuse to get away and break up the routine and see some new scenery and warm weather and do something he may enjoy. He’ll never be able to separate the two things and justify the ridiculous nature of such a trip. In fact, right now, unless I have the flyer miles built up, I’m not doing it. And my nephew’s season begins that period and I wouldn’t want to miss that action. What would Gen Aldo do? Incidentally, are you and M into it?

  4. Sorry McG,

I promised “the boy” that I would take him to Orlando this in ‘08 and there is not enough wampum being stored up under the mattress to do both.

There is not too much in this world that can compete with a kid’s smile at Disney.

Thanks for asking anyhow. You should consider taking the lovely Mrs. Pinetar and that future Cy Young Award winner son (unpolluted of course) of yours.
